You know you're a mom when...

…you are writing instructions for the babysitter and have to stop and look up the word raisin to make sure you spelled it right.

…you let dirty little hands rub lotion all over your legs, gel in your hair, and "makeup" on your face because if feels so good to just sit there (yes, boys like to play beauty parlor too).

…you're reading the newspaper and come across a word only to think, "I use to know what that means."

…the song running over and over in your head as you drift off to sleep is "Baby Beluga".

…you can walk in a room and in 2 seconds find exactly what your child has "looked everywhere for".

…your intelligence might be slipping, but your hearing is only growing more acute. You can hear little feet sneaking out of bed a mile away, or your baby stirring even before you're awake.

…you act like a clown half the day in hopes to score a few toothless grins.

Just a few things I noticed about myself this week. I'm sure many of you can relate and add to the list.

And here's just another little somethin' somethin'. Andrew was feeling rather snuggly last night at dinner and kept trying to give me kisses . I kept dodging them since he had lasagna all over his face. Well, he managed to get me right on the ear, and left some of his dinner there as well. But that's okay he picked it off and then ate it. Definitely not the grossest thing that has ever happened to me though.

I love these kinds of lists!! Too funny! Although I have to add something to one of them . . .

"you can walk in a room and in 2 seconds find exactly what your child [AND/OR HUSBAND] has "looked everywhere for"

Hilarious that Andrew ate lasagna out of your ear. I can just picture it!!

I have to add another to your list. You know you've been a mother for a long time when . . .

Reading this list brings tear of gratitude to your eyes--grateful that these grandchildren that you love have such awesome and dedicated moms. (Mothering is not easy or glamorous, but it is the most important work that I ever did.)

Love you, Nyla

Loved this post! I think I related most with the loss of intelligence...I can remember my mom always saying to me, "I used to be really sharp Michelle--I'm sure you don't believe that." And I didn't. But now I'm turning into her!! I hid one of Jared's b-day presents in a place so good I still haven't found it. I'm always saying, "Now why did I open this door?" and "I'm losing my mind." but don't you love it. :)

I love that you have been posting more. Your little family is so sweet. I relate to this post so much. Being a mom is so hard sometimes when you realize that you aren't what you used to be. My mind is completely gone too. There are so many times when I can't think of a word that is so simple and obvious. But then it is all worth it for those "dirty-faced" kisses.
